WEEK TWO

-June 11 was the major fundraiser event. Worked from 8am to 9:30 p.m. Helped with setting auction items, tables, taking pictures at the tennis court, and putting contest.
-June 12-15 I organized more books, found websites online where kids can read online for free,  and made a flyer to hand out to kids/families with information about the websites. Also found the <www.wegivebook.org> website where 15-LOVE could be a campaign and be eligible to get free books mailed to us, and found information on Barnes & Noble sponsorships and donations and being able to do a book fair with them. These days also consisted of designing an envelope, response card, and invitation card for the Capital Region Children’s Literacy Fair event. Also spoke to another intern who told me about a huge book sale at the Poughkeepsie Public Library.

Websites where kids can read online for free:

We Give Books:

Become a campaign on their website and receive a book every time someone reads a book under our organization.

Barnes & Noble sponsorships and donations and being able to do a book fair with them:

-They support requests from non-profit organizations that focus on literacy, arts, or education for k-12 children.
-For donations and sponsorships, we have to submit our proposal to the community relations manager or store manager at a local Barnes & Noble store.

-They also have fundraising opportunities by doing in-store book fairs
-to do the book fair we have to speak to a store manager or community relations manager
-the book fair will be in-store and also on their online store
-dates have to be reserved at least 8 weeks in advance
-our organization would get a percentage of the net book fair sales
-best time to do a book fair--> "Support our summer reading program" or "Welcome students back to school"
